Begin the Relationship With Your Hair at the Edmonton Natural Hair Show | Self Love | Ladies Corner Canada

Kinky hair at best is very difficult to deal with.

Whilst some training and skills are necessary to deal with African hair commonly called Kinky hair, women who choose to their natural hair over western styles are brave. Osas Eweka-Smith does not agree. She does not see the bravery in showing the world who you are. She has used her own hair for the past sixteen years, so she is very comfortable wearing little makeup and showing the rest of us how to maintain our kinky hair.

Kinky hair takes time to comb in the mornings. Some employers covertly discourage kinky hairstyles because it can look angry and untamed. What does "doesn't look professional even mean"? argues Eweka Smith. African hair needs to be understood. African hair needs patience as well as an understanding that investing in your hair is investing in your heritage, your culture and in you.

Eweka-Smith encourages us to find out what our hair texture is and what ingredients we need to keep it soft and succulent. She teaches that you need to treat your hair like a baby. Babies need tender care and understanding. Parents need to get their children to listen to Osas. She is able to infuse the love of hair into children and adults alike.

Yet, proponents of African natural hair say African women should not feel pressurized to alter the quality of their hair. Advocates of natural hair empower women to learn about their hair. They urge women who lack the confidence in their hair to flaunt it after they have spent hours on Google and Youtube learning about black hair.
