Former President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at Michelle Obama's book tour Saturday night in Washington. He showed up with a bouquet of pink roses. The crowd at Capital One Arena gave the former President a thundering ovation which literally brought the house down. The event was moderated by longtime family friend and former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett. Mrs Obama is currently on a 10 city book tour to promote her book 'Becoming'. Her tour kicked off November 13 at the Chicago's United Centre and concludes December 17th at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas.

In a record for Penguin Random House -publishers of the book- the book sold more than 725,000 units in all formats and editions in the United States and Canada on its first day. According to a press release, the book was published with the first printing of 1.8 million copies. The publisher has already gone back to press for an additional 800,000 hardcover copies, which will bring the total number of copies in print in the United States and Canada to 2.6 million.
